Operation Spare Room is Complete
This weekend we completed Operation Spare Room, a mission to transform my office into an office/spare-room; move the futon down from upstairs and buy a bunch of new furniture to make the room a little more welcome and warming for guests. After a quick trip to IKEA in New Haven on Saturday I hastily set about constructing a sea of flat-packed furniture. The great thing about this furniture is it went together so easily and it felt really solid when it was finished. We bought a bunch of stuff from the Alve series. Quality, solid wood at IKEA prices; you can’t beat it. Last weekend I completed the shelving in the closet so after constructing an array of draws and shelves I set about re-organizing and cleaning. Perfect. The room looks awesome.
Next week, thanks to a head-start on our taxes, we’re going to totally re-trim the nursery. Greg is going to give us a hand with all the carpentry, it should look great! We’re going to try and organize a massive dumpster for the weekend and have an early Spring clean. Throwing out ALOT of old stuff; in addition to the old trim from the nursery.
We’re switching out the baseboard (”skirting board” if you’re in the UK) for a deeper style, adding some Long Island style wainscoting, chair rail, and some crown moulding (”coving”).
It should look great and I can’t wait to get started. I love building stuff and Greg has all the tools so no messing around. Nailguns, table-saw. We’re gonna’ rip out all the old stuff, patch and re-work everything. I think I can safely say I’ve started “nesting” before Jen has!
Anyway, couple of pictures from the spare room/office. The framed photo is some of my brothers handy work from Venice.
